Airgas Refrigerants Announces Cylinder Recertification Services

March 6, 2013

Airgas Refrigerants has opened a cylinder recertification facility at its location in Smyrna, GA. The company received approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration to recertify low pressure cylinders manufactured to a 4B series DOT specification such as 4B, 4BA and 4BW.

Airgas Refrigerants is one of the country’s largest distributors and reclaimers of refrigerant gases and one of the few that recertifies cylinders in-house. The Airgas Refrigerants recertification qualifications include visual inspections, hydrostatic testing and direct expansion testing.

Airgas Refrigerants created the cylinder recertification operation in anticipation of the growing market for reclaiming used refrigerants, especially, HCFC-22, or R-22, designated for a phaseout of new production by the end of 2019. Through its cylinder recertification, Airgas Refrigerants can more quickly turn around its cylinder fleet, and save money in the process.

Airgas is no longer strictly relying upon third party vendors to handle this type of low pressure cylinder and is reducing the time to turn these assets around from 6 weeks down to one week.
